Star Spangled Cookies

Its one of my favorite times of the summer.... 4th of July!! For some reason though, I have always found it one of the hardest holidays to find a dessert to bring to a cookout.  It's most likely going to be insanely hot, so you don't want something heavy, and when you search for ideas on the internet, all that seems to come up is something with blueberries and strawberries on them (which aren't bad, I just want some new ideas!)

This recipe requires a few ingredients, two to be exact:  Sugar cookie dough and patriotic sprinkles.

Yep, that's it.  It's why this site is called Dessert Made Easy!

The hardest part is probably finding the star pan mold.  Mine is a Wilton brand pan.  They are usually sold at craft stores and other big name retailers (I've seen them at Walmart!).  You can always order them online from Wilton and you can also pick up some sprinkles while you're there.

Now you're probably thinking "why don't you just use a cookie cutter".  Well that is a good point.  This is great if you are in a rush and/or trying to avoid a mess.  I didn't have to use a rolling pin and roll the cookies out, I didn't have to get flour all over my kitchen so the dough wouldn't stick to the counter, and I saved some time for myself to enjoy a nice cold beverage on a hot day. (I consider that a win in my book)

First thing you do is, spray your star pan with baking spray. Cut a slice of sugar cookie dough about 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick and place in the center of each star mold.

Using your fingers, gently press out the dough into the corners, making sure not to leave any holes.

Sprinkle your cookies with your desired sprinkles (I bought mine at my local supermarket.  Sometimes the bakery section sells special tubs of sprinkles around holidays so check them out!).  Gently press the sprinkles into dough.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

Let cool for a few minutes before removing from the pan. These cookies create a slight bowl shape that would be perfect for a nice scoop of ice cream on a hot day.  Just another simple idea for you!!  Enjoy!
